OOAKny

Last night was the preview night for the One of a Kind show at Pier 94 off of 55th street. The place was packed with vendors and customers sipping wine and browisng the artisan handmade wares from shops around the country. Really the cream of the crop - it was very inspiring to see it all in one place. I can't believe this was the first show in NY, glad they decided to branch out and take the show on the road!

Browsing through the aisle, i cam across many friendly faces of people i know. One of which was the duo of Rocks And Salt - who had a nice corner spot and loads and loads of hats in tons of colors - it was great. I knew exactly which two I wanted and I got to go home happy.

Etsy also had a whole section of the market sectioned off with their elite vendors. Ha ha elite vendors. Well i was happy that three of those talented shops are in The {NewNew } with me.

What I bought at the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade!

What's nice about doing some holiday shows is that you get to shop and work at the same time, and the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade was no different! I had a great time and got to cross some people off of my Christmas list. I started in the back - chatted with Etsy, ate some yummy cupcakes with Ninecakes and the Children's Museum of Arts, and went straight for the chocolate! There, with Daniel's help, I picked out to raw chocolate bars (that I will use as stocking stuffer) - that seem to me at least, completely guilt free! Thank you Fine and Raw! And look at their packaging - yes, the designer in me was immediately smitten.
Next up to the middle room where I picked up some felted soaps that I had worked out with NordeaSoaperie - me choosing basic colors for the felting and scents for the soaps, glad they were ready today so i could pick them up - and look at the beautiful presentation. And finally up to the top level of the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade I found some great jewelry for my sister and presents for my new nephew. I went straight to Windows of Agate to see if she had sewn anything new or things I hadn't seen before - and lo and behold, she had! She had these great little children's play blankets, that were super soft with littles tabs for toddlers to grab on too - perfect! and look at the beautful fabric, so retro.
The other person I was looking to shop for was my little sister. I had given her a ring last year and she lost it and was so upset so I was on the hunt for a replacement when I came across this really hip stacking rings from Lingua Nigra. Perfect! She'll love them. For more local shopping from the New York region - Search Etsy, newnewteam

Purchases from the Bowery Bazaar

Okay, I had promised myself that I would not go shopping on Black Friday - but i found myself in the city at the Bower Bazaar looking for some handmade gifts for friends and family and i was not disappointed!
The Bower Bazaar is a new handmade market on Bowery between East 3rd & 4th Streets open Friday - Sunday 12 to 8. The space is dominated by these alcoves where each shop sets up their own boutique, which is very cool as you browse through each space you get a great sense of their work - from unique clothing to one of a kind jewelry, handmade bath and body products. (There some weird watch guy in the front which i don't know why he's there, but the other stuff is really great!)

I'm always on the hunt for Jewelry - for myself - but also it makes a great gift! I have tons of necklaces, earrings and even some pins from Wabisabi Brooklyn and thought these earrings on dimes would make great fun earrings for my little sister. [I feel confident she does not read my blog, so I don't think I am spoiling any suprises.]
So I was happy to get one present off my list on Black Friday, and I had already spied some other things that I had on my list to get for my other sister. She loves nice smelling soaps and has been disappointed in the past with some of the handmade melt and pour soaps that don't hold their smell or a great lather very well. After having a LONG conversation with Nordea about her process - i felt so informed! And I smelled EVERYTHING and bought a couple of bars and a sugar scrub as a gift - i already have the perfect basket for them - and they smell GREAT
Hope my family likes the presents!
