Inspirational textiles from the DeYoung and a Weaving How To!

Photos from my trip to The Art of the Anatolian Kilim: Highlights from the de Young Museum of Fine Art in San Franciso. So beautifully patterned and with such vibrant colors! The hand woven rugs dated from the 15th to the 19th century. The Kilim region in Turkey has long been known for its handcrafted rugs. These example,s constructed with a series of knots on a loom.

I love the diversity of geometric shapes with the richness of colors, so bold! You can't help but think of the hours spent at a loom creating these intricate repetitive designs.

There is a great tutorial on Craftstylish on creating your own loom and a weaving technique to try out for beginners.
