Wow what a statistic! And also, i think these local community organizations are looking our for you and me and trying to bring us all a bit of joy. My last local donation, a group called Wellness in The Schools which aims to bring more fresh healthy meals to our NYC Public schools. Having gone through the public school system for 6 years, my god the difference a fresh salad would have made - and knowing that the school system only allocates .90¢ per child per meal, i think each donation can go a very long way!
Other local non profits to help support local inner city kids reach their educational potential thru a program that coaches and places them in private school, Prep for Prep. You can even read first hand some of these life changing stories in Be The Dream - really inspiring!
