Weekend in Chelsea

This will be a busy weekend for me - first to set up my shared boot at Crafts in Chelsea on 21st Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. This event is gonna be great, we have partnered with a local school to shut down the street and have an Etsy Handmade only Street Fair while the school hosts it's Fall Festival inside with children's events - food, games, petting zoo. It should be really great with almost 70 local artists represented. After that is set up, I run to Madison Square Park to man our NYCraft booth at the Mad. Sq. Mark’t between 23rd and 23ths Streets. Come by and visit - you can take refuge with our space heater and shop fantastic handbags from Meegun, whimsical and hilarious collages from Lenny Mud along with pottery ranging from handpainted bowls, to mugs to pumpkins and ghosts, snarky and sweet pillows made from recycled water bottles by Alexandra Ferguson in all shapes and sizes, sterling silver and gold filled jewelry from Metalicious, concentrating on pure forms mixed with some gemstones in a very elegant way,
my silkscreened tee shirts and decoupage jewelry by Wabisabi Brooklyn in both sterling silver and copper.

I want one of everything!

Surprise Farm Share

A friend's neighbor was out of town and let me pick up their weekly farm share - and this was the bounty! Scrumptous! I made a delicious pesto sauce immediately and tossed that with the leaks an some whole wheat pasta for the first meal with a salad of the mixed green and the radish. Day 2 was roasted purple potatoes with squash and garlic - it was soo good, and simple in the oven - with some butter and majoram. The next night all I had left was the peppers and garlic so i chopped those up and made red beans and rice.

I was so inspired by getting a sack of random veggies and the fun of figuring out what to do with them and being forced to make things you wouldn't normally I signed up for my local winter farm share. {for other areas in Brooklyn - check this link out} And thankfully the winter share doesn't have a work shift requirement - not that I am that lazy! But hard to work things in sometimes....

So here's to a winter of Fresh local veggies!

Artwork Find!

I love finding unexpected things on the streets in NYC.
Well, I found this framed poster on my walk home last night.
The drawing is really strong, so many lines and things to keep your eye moving over the piece with spots of color. And it has words placed throughout the black line drawing - "But For remembrance sake", "That is all beautiful" in pale colors over the construction scene vertically. It seems to be from a Ben Shahn retrospective at the Jewish Musuem, here are some other works, but frankly, i like the drawings better than the paintings, the contrast of the darks and lights and weights really keeps your eye moving through the piece.

I ran back this morning to see what other framed prints were in the pile (it was hard to tell at night), and they were all gone! Oh well, gotta be quick for free art.
