Metro US says go to Art Star....

Just packing and getting ready for my craft fair road trip to Philly when my google alert came in from Metro US.That's right people, number 2 - BE UNIQUE!
" 2. Be unique. Stand out from the rest with clothes and jewelry you can’t pick up in stores. For classic beaded pieces, check out K.Flick. If bold pendants and long chains compliment your style, check out Realm Jewelry. Or pick up screen-printed shirts from vendors Alison Tauber and KimmChi."
Exciting! Well, we'll be hitting the road in the am with other talented artists Fubabee and Better Than Jam with other friends KnitKnit, cakehouse and Mayluk heading out today for Art Star Craft Bizaar - a two day music and shopping fest out on Penn's landing in Philadelphia.
They've got a great Roster of artists!

Pics from the 9th Avenue Food Fair

We have gone to the 9th Avenue Food fair the weekend after mother's day since i was a little kid. And while it doesn't seem to have as much food as it used to, we still go to find that great seafood guy or that home cooked spanish food you can't get anywhere else. here are some photos:
first meal, calamari!
we couldn't get a better shot, but i swar that is Kevin Smith!
YUM!
DO NOT BUY FROM THE $2 JEWELRY TENT - you put an honest jeweler out of work, and you keep the 3rd world as it is, making unlivable wages!!!
Okay, i get off my soap box now.

Knitta! in Brooklyn

me and Magda (who contacted The {NewNew} to solicit local support)

Wednesday night was the Montague Street installation of the 69 Meters project, where 50 knitters from as far away as South America, knit colorful sleeves to adorn and enliven the 69 parking meters that run down Montague Street in Brooklyn heights. Organized by Magda of the knitting street graffiti crew Knitta Please! and the Montague Street BID, 15 or so volunteers installed the knitted pieces.Red Bridge Studio installing one of her two pieces, love those colors!
That's my piece! right by a chinese laundry
Outdone by KnitKnit! She was my final knitting tutor and finished her piece with her signature power cord.
some Press about the event:

DesignTrust (has a photo of me installing, don't mind the trash)

StreetsBlog (has a nice photo of my piece, which was my first knitting project)

It really was so rewarding being a part of this project! With so many friends participating, and the supportive reaction from the public, i was so proud i learned how to knit for this!

Necklace from knit knit!

Oh I've had my eye on this for a looooong time! I love jewelry by Knit Knit! What better way to combine craft and glam! Her jewelry combines gemstones with hand felted and sewn elements with a lot of contrasting textures like wood and felt.

i went home with this beauty!
